The Story
Expo, also known as the World’s Fair, has been a global stage for innovation since 1851. Throughout its history, groundbreaking inventions and ideas have been unveiled to the world, making it one of the most prestigious international exhibitions.
For Expo 2020 Dubai, DiGidot collaborated on the iconic Italian Pavilion, designed by renowned architect Carlo Ratti. Inspired by sustainability and innovation, the pavilion was constructed using three large ship hulls and became one of the most celebrated attractions of the event.
To bring the architectural vision to life, DiGidot supplied and controlled a large-scale dynamic lighting installation integrated into the pavilion’s striking rope façade. More than 20,000 LED pixels were mounted onto robust ship ropes suspended across the structure. Controlled by DiGidot PxlNet Node, the installation delivered reliable, synchronized performance across the entire façade.
The vertical rope arrangement effectively transformed the pavilion into a giant low-resolution LED screen, capable of displaying dynamic animations, colors, and visual content that reinforced the pavilion’s message of connectivity and innovation. The flexibility and scalability of the DiGidot system made it possible to manage this complex installation with precision and stability throughout the six-month event.
As one of the standout pavilions of Expo 2020, the Italian Pavilion attracted millions of visitors and demonstrated how architecture, technology, and lighting can come together to create an unforgettable experience. DiGidot is proud to have contributed to a project of such international significance and lasting impact.
