The Story

The City Light & The Lost Flight is an art piece created by the StudioPlus lighting design team in Bangalore, India. The installation brings up an important, yet ofter overlooked topic of light pollution and its impact on bird migration.Through this work, the artists advocate for a more sustainable use of light - one that follows established protocols and respects our natural surroundings.

A story of a lost flock

The installation reveals a story of a Maya, a spoonbill lead astray on her way to the forest, distracted by the illuminating force of the city. Tall wooden poles with flickering neon light recall the city's skyscrapers. Beneath those poles are the flying birds, who circling in search for their way. The glow of urban life disrupts the flock’s natural navigation systems, leaving them disoriented and lost.

Behind the artwork

The artwork is presented in a form of a spectacle where light, music and audio-sound synchronised in real time. This is possible thanks to the smart DiGidot infrastructure. In total, there are 3 units of DiGidot C4 Extended 4, connected to 3 PxlNet Transmitters and 9 PxLNet Transceivers, which together control about 1000 pixels. The host computer is producing sound, while simultaneously sending out the Art-Net to make the show complete with light and music. This simple configuration can be done in under 5 minutes, with a seamless and clean result - one that makes people stop and contemplate.
