What is Light Lab Licht? 

Light Lab Licht, DiGidot initiative developed in collaboration with the German Chapter of International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), is a new educational and experimental platform designed for lighting designers who are interested in innovation, transformation, and hands-on exploration of digital lighting.

What to expect? 

The initiative will begin with a series of webinars featuring leading lighting designers who are actively pushing the boundaries of contemporary lighting practice. Through these conversations, participants will explore new approaches to lighting design, the role of digital control, and the creative potential of programmable light in architectural and artistic contexts.

The program will culminate in hands-on workshops, where participants will translate the insights from the webinars into practical experimentation. During these sessions, attendees will work directly with pixel lighting systems and controllers, learning how to design and build their own light objects.

A key part of the workshops is introducing participants to the basic vocabulary of lighting programming and digital control systems. The goal is not only to teach the technical tools but also to demonstrate that programmable, digital lighting – often perceived as highly technical – is accessible, intuitive and empowering for designers.

By combining inspiration, knowledge exchange, and practical experimentation, Light Lab Licht aims to demystify digital lighting technologies and encourage designers to integrate them confidently into their creative practice.
